Worksite child care centers are hosted by numerous state agencies across New York to provide convenient, quality care at affordable rates for children of state employees.

NYS Worksite Child Care Centers

The NYS worksite child care centers were established to enable parents to more fully participate in the workforce and to be more engaged and productive at work, recruit and retain employees, and serve as a model and resource to other employers. The worksite child care centers also offer parents peace of mind that comes from having their child close by in a quality program.

The worksite child care centers are licensed by the State of New York and many have achieved national accreditation, as indicated by the torch next to the worksite child care center name in the descriptions below. Each worksite child care center is a separate not-for-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors that sets policy and oversees the management of the program. Enrollment priority is given to children of state employees.

Paying for Child Care, the State Can Help!

As the result of the collective bargaining agreements, certain state employees are eligible for an Employer Contribution of up to $800 per year when they enroll in the Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAAcount). This Employer Contribution is an important benefit that helps state employees with expenses for child care, elder care, or care for a disabled dependent. The DCAAccount also saves state employees money by allowing them to set aside up to $5,000 per household in pre-tax salary to pay for dependent care expenses. Those who enroll in the DCAAccount never pay taxes on the amount they set aside for eligible child care expenses.

If you and your spouse are both state employees, you may both enroll in the Dependent Care Advantage Account and you may both be eligible for an Employer Contribution based on individual salary.

The DCAAccount is a simple and convenient way of putting tax dollars back in your pocket, and with the Employer Contribution you can save more than ever. If you miss the annual fall open enrollment period, you may still be eligible to join. Call to see if you are eligible to enroll under a Change In Status. Fun at NYS Worksite Center School-Age Summer Camps

Are you looking for a summer camp for your school-aged child? Did you know that many of the NYS Worksite Child Care Centers offer summer camp typically for children ages 5 to 12? All the worksite summer camps are based out of the child care centers, so they are conveniently located at various state sites. The summer camps offer weekly themes to ensure your child will be entertained while gaining knowledge on a variety of topics in a caring environment. What questions should I ask when I call about enrolling my child for summer camp?

  • Do I need to enroll my child for the entire summer? Enrollment requirements vary for each center, some offering weekly and daily schedules, while others require your commitment to the camp’s entire season.
  • Is lunch provided for my child? Some camps provide lunch while others require parents to provide a lunch.
  • What time does camp begin? What time is pick-up? This will vary, with some centers offering care before and after camp.
  • Who are the staff that will be with the campers? Some centers use current staff members, while others use a combination of current and new staff. A background check is done on all staff and training is provided before they are allowed to supervise the campers.
  • Will the children take field trips? All of the summer camps offer summer enrichment programs, either on-site or off site. What the camp offers depends on the location of the center and what is available in that area. The summer camps may provide swimming on-site or at public pools, special events including magicians, puppeteers, zoo animals, family picnics, musicians and trips to the zoo, library, museums, and parks.

Enroll in the DCAAccount

Great news for state employees! If in order for you and your spouse (if you are married) to be able to work, you plan to send your child under the age of 13, to summer day camp, a Change in Care Provider (including summer day camp) is an eligible Change in Status event that allows you to enroll in the Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAAccount) for the remainder of 2018. Also, the Employer Contribution is available to eligible employees who enroll in the DCAAccount to help pay for summer day camp expenses. Although not required, many of the worksite child care centers offer a special rate for children of New York State employees who are covered by the collective bargaining agreements. Rates vary with each child care center. To obtain current rates, please contact the center directly.
